I echo an earlier posters thoughts.
I think this site serves an important purpose. I hope it doesn't go away.. Daily new people sign on looking for direction with their doubts and I am glad they have somewhere to ask them

How is JWD doing ?
by Simon insomeone came out with the tired old claim that the site is dying, there is a mas exodus, yada yada yada.
some people would really love for that to happen, i know .... we have gone down a few places on bigboards simply because some new sites were added to it that have more posts - the sites we are ranked alongside all went down by the same amount at the same time and we've gone up against some and down against others (not that sheer post numbers matter that much).
also, a combination of optimising page caching and alexa changing how they rank things has reduced the ranking on that too ... but how are we really doing?.

Whenever, someone close to my heart dies I still wonder about God.
My best girlfriend's husband died last month from brain cancer. Although, she is not religious in anyway nor was her departed husband, she paid $100.00 for a minister to come to the cemetery and bless his ashes before burial. In her own words she said "just in case"...

he has 4 grown-up children and 9 grandchildren.

I'm so very sorry for your sudden loss of Dan.
I also hear you when you talk about the frustration with dealing with his J.W. side of the family. Actually, I am impressed that you were able to involve them all without a major, major clash. I'm sure Dan would be proud of you as well.
After a dear male friend of our family died in 2000 of Cancer we also planted a tree in his memory and even named the tree after him. We take care of this tree very intently through the seasons. The growth of this beautiful tree keeps our grandfatherly friends memory alive for my husband and I and our children ,who loved him so dearly. It has been a very, very healing way to deal with our loss.
Again I'm sorry for your sudden loss, Jules99. I hope you have some close personal friends to lean on in your time of grief.

I too watched the Grammy's and you are right Brummie when you said Alicia Keys sing "if I aint got you" live was just great. I thought it was one of the best performances.
I personally didn't like the opening act. Two many super great songs being sung at the same time. I'd have loved to have heard them more individual and that's just my take.

Another Old Friend Died
by Undecided inwell maybe not a friend but some one i have known for 55 years.
she and her family were at one time associated with the jws, except her husband.
her sons left the org.

I've only been out since '92 but I still feel ripped off, in a sense, because there have been many elderly ones in the Congregation that I was in that have died since '92 and I never got to see them again after I was disfellowshipped.

Let's do something big for this year's memorial !
by Simon inenough of the wts intimidation and getting away with all sorts of crap.
we, "the people", have more power than they, "the establishment", do.. this year i propose that we make ourselves heard and noticed.
that as many people as possible protest at their beloved memorial - the one event that is "most sacred" to them.. i am not suggesting that we disrupt or do anything illegal but simply that we exercise our right to take up their offer of free wine and make a statement.. go, drink.

my funny mother...

i got one of the packages today.
it consist of two small boxes, one with a red bucket of candy with a red heart on the front with a caption that says "wishing you a happy valentine's day!

Pagan Calendar & Recipes
Airbe Druad Pagan Calendar & Recepies Oatmeal Pancakes
Need
1 1/ 2 cups uncooked rolled oats
2 cups milk
1 cup flour
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder
1 teaspoon salt (optional - intensifies flavor)
3 eggs, lightly beaten
4 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled (butter, not margarine - transfats are bad for you)
1/4 cup vegetable oilPour oats into a large mixing bowl, pour in the milk and stir well. Set aside until all the milk has been absorbed. In the meantime, combine brown sugar, flour, baking powder and salt by sifting them together onto a plate.
Add eggs to the oat mixture and mix well with a large spoon. Once mixed, sift in the flour mixture over the top and then stir well. Add the melted butter and stir only long enough to blend. Do not over mix. :)
Using the vegetable oil, grease your griddle or heavy skillet lightly and heat until a drop of water sputters and evaporates instantly.
Using a ladle, pour the batter onto the hot pan/griddle to form pancakes approximately 3 1/2 inches in diameter.
Cook for 2-3 minutes over moderate heat, until small, scattered bubbles are formed and have begun to break the surface of your cakes. This is your cue to flip your pancakes using a spatula and cook for an additional minute or until the other side of the pancake is a golden brown.
Stack your pancakes on a heated plate/platter and repeat the process, oiling the pan and stirring the batter gently between batches until all your pancakes are cooked.
Best served with butter and maple syrup.
Makes approximately 18 3 1/2 inch pancakes
This is a great Harvest Dish.

How many believe in a literal, firey hell that God will damn people to?
by AlmostAtheist indo you truly believe that there is a place/state/condition that god will forever banish some people to, along the lines of the hell concept?
only the "really bad", the "bad", or even the "not as good as they should be"?.
(this came to mind when i saw the "jews in hell" thread.

Not me.. I don't believe in a literal fiery hell.
I would however like to be cremated when I die. I suspect it will be very hot in there but I still don't think that's hell either. I consider it an alternative to being eaten by worms. ewww.
